Governments Crack Down on Grok Deepfakes

Governments and regulators worldwide are escalating actions against xAI's Grok for producing sexually explicit deepfakes, Reuters reports on Feb. 3, 2026. The European Commission opened an investigation on Jan. 26, France's cybercrime unit raided X's Paris office Feb. 3 and countries including India, Brazil and Indonesia have issued notices, blocks or deadlines. The measures could force X to tighten safeguards and limit image-generation features.
