Generative AI Shapes Psychosis Risk In Vulnerable People

Clinicians and researchers warn that conversational generative AI is increasingly implicated in shaping or reinforcing psychotic symptoms among people with psychotic disorders or those at high risk. While there is no evidence AI causes psychosis outright, clinicians cite case reports and theoretical concerns that AI’s responsive validation, personalization and social-replacement effects may precipitate or maintain delusions. The article urges integrating mental-health expertise into AI design and clinical screening.
