Erik Wolpaw Explores Generative-AI For Game Dialogue
On the MinnMax podcast, Valve writer Erik Wolpaw said a small group of Valve employees have been experimenting with generative-AI tools to test reactive dialogue and real-time character responses in games. He said the models can follow player-driven chaos and act as a "straight man" in open-world scenarios but remain poor at creativity, humor and voice acting, and are currently too costly to ship at scale.
