ComReg Blocks Over 131 Million Scam Calls
ComReg says it has blocked over 131 million scam phone calls between February 2023 and October 2025, including more than 18 million calls blocked in September 2025 alone. The Irish regulator has implemented five industry interventions—such as Do-Not-Originate lists, Protected Numbers and CLI blocking—and plans a real-time firewall using machine learning in the first half of next year. These measures aim to reduce spoofing, financial loss and consumer harm.
Key Points
- 1Blocks 131 million scam calls from Feb 2023 to Oct 2025, including 18 million in September
- 2Implements multilayered interventions to prevent number spoofing and reduce consumer financial loss and distress
- 3Requires industry and operators to adopt real-time analytics, collaborate internationally, and maintain anti-scam measures
Scoring Rationale
Official regulator data and planned ML firewall give practical value, but national scope and incremental innovation limit broader impact.
