Chinese AI Models Gain Traction In Enterprises

Pinterest and other US companies are increasingly adopting Chinese open-source AI models since the launch of DeepSeek R-1 in January 2025, using them to improve recommendations and reduce costs. Pinterest executives say in-house techniques on these models are about 30% more accurate and up to 90% cheaper than proprietary US alternatives. A Stanford report and Hugging Face download trends indicate Chinese models have caught up or pulled ahead globally.
