South Korea's defense ministry said Friday it relieved Chief of Naval Operations Adm. Kang Dong-gil of duty over his alleged involvement in former President Yoon Suk Yeol's botched martial law bid in late 2024. The move, coming a day after Ground Operations Commander Gen. Joo Sung-un was suspended, follows a monthslong probe that identified about 180 personnel among roughly 860 officers and mobilized some 1,600 across services.
