Alberta Pursues Data Centres To Attract Investment

Alberta is pursuing an AI data-centre hub strategy, publishing its Artificial Intelligence Data Centres Strategy in 2024 and formalizing grid access and tax incentives. Sam Jenkins, CEO of Punchcard Systems, told BetaKit that Meta’s lobbyists filed in early February to discuss Alberta's AI infrastructure policy, signalling hyperscale interest as the province seeks up to $100 billion in private data-centre investment. The push risks building infrastructure without retaining local economic value.
