AI Enhances National Breast Cancer Screening Outcomes

Researchers published in The Lancet present full 2023 MASAI trial results showing AI-supported mammography in Sweden's national screening programme led to more early cancer detections and fewer interval cancers. Between April 2021 and December 2022, 105,900+ women were randomized; AI reduced interval cancer diagnoses by 12% and raised screening detection to 81% while false-positive rates remained similar. AI also cut radiologist workload by 44%.
