Utah Allows AI To Renew Prescriptions

Utah regulators this month launched a pilot program allowing an AI system to renew certain routine maintenance prescriptions without a physician actively approving each refill. The program applies only to patients meeting predefined eligibility and clinician-approved rules, logs decisions for audit, and routes out-of-threshold cases back to clinicians. Regulators emphasize provider responsibility, aiming to reduce clinician workload while raising liability and trust questions.
