UN Identifies Trafficking Into Cyber-Scam Operations

The UN Office of the High Commissioner for Human Rights on Friday released a report warning that at least 300,000 people from 66 countries have been trafficked into cyber-enabled scam operations, mainly in Cambodia, Laos, Myanmar and the Philippines. The report estimates the Mekong-region scam industry at $43.8 billion annually, documents severe abuses and emerging AI-enabled tactics, and urges coordinated, rights-based responses and stronger international cooperation.
