UK-India Researchers Launch AI Mental Health Programme for Girls

Researchers from India and the UK on Feb. 18 unveiled a £5.3 million Wellcome-funded project to adapt and scale an AI-enabled digital mental health programme for adolescent girls in rural India. Led by Imperial College London with partners including Cambridge, Tata Institute of Social Sciences, Milaan Foundation and Wysa, the study will culturally adapt Wysa’s AI chatbot and evaluate effectiveness, acceptability and feasibility.
Scoring Rationale
High credibility and broad relevance across digital mental health, but modest novelty limited to project announcement rather than technical breakthrough.
