Uber, Nuro, Lucid Begin San Francisco Robotaxi Service

Uber, Nuro and Lucid said Monday, Jan. 5, they began on-road testing in December and plan to launch a robotaxi service in the San Francisco Bay Area later this year. The vehicle, shown at CES, uses Nvidia DRIVE AGX Thor compute, seats six, includes Uber-designed rider interfaces, and will undergo closed-course testing, simulation and validation before Lucid begins production.
Key Points
- 1Begin on-road testing in December of a six-passenger robotaxi jointly developed by Uber, Nuro and Lucid
- 2Use Nvidia DRIVE AGX Thor compute and safety validation combining closed-course testing and simulation for reliability
- 3Enable Uber to deploy scalable autonomous rides with in-vehicle UX controls, visualization, and planned mass production
Scoring Rationale
Official partner release shows concrete deployment progress; limited novelty and geographic scope constrain breakthrough potential.
