Uber Invests In Rivian For 50,000 Robotaxis
Uber announced Thursday it will invest up to $1.25 billion in Rivian and buy up to 50,000 autonomous R2 electric robotaxis, initially purchasing 10,000 vehicles. The fleet is scheduled to begin service in San Francisco and Miami in 2028, expand to 25 U.S. cities by 2031, and includes an option for 40,000 additional vehicles in 2030.
Scoring Rationale
Large official investment and purchase commitment signals major industry impact; limited technical depth slightly reduces practitioner's immediate actionability.
