Telemedicine App Improves NPC Mouth-Opening Rehabilitation

In a 2026 randomized controlled trial, researchers developed "Open Care", a telemedicine app using an EffiFCNN-ResNet computer-vision model, and randomized 109 nasopharyngeal carcinoma patients (55 intervention, 54 control) to app-guided versus video-based mouth-opening exercises. The model achieved a macro-averaged F1 of 0.96 and the intervention produced significant improvements in maximum mouth opening (P=.04), exercise frequency (P=.001), fatigue (P=.04), and several rehabilitation beliefs; mean system usability score was 74.3/100.
