Stanford Team Detects More Aneurysms With AI
Stanford University researchers developed an AI tool that identifies brain aneurysms on CT angiograms and, in a test of 100 scans, found six more aneurysms than physicians did. The model was trained on 611 annotated 3D scans and overlays CT images with highlighted regions; the tool could improve early detection and intervention to reduce ruptures and related mortality.
Key Points
- 1Found six additional aneurysms in 100 CT angiogram scans compared with physicians' reads
- 2Trained on 611 annotated 3D scans, enabling high-detail pattern recognition of small, irregular aneurysms
- 3Offers clinicians a CT overlay to prioritize review, improving screening efficiency and early intervention
Scoring Rationale
Strong clinical relevance and official Stanford research, limited by prototype-level validation and small test sample.
