On Feb. 26, South Korea's Ministry of Trade, Industry and Resources said it will support AI transformation of major industrial complexes through the Manufacturing AI Transformation (M.AX) Alliance to accelerate manufacturing growth. The alliance formed a division representing 10 industrial zones, including Ansan, Changwon, Gwangju, Ulsan and Yeosu, to build AI-operated factories, attract data centers, deploy 5G and foster manufacturing AI ecosystems; it includes about 1,000 firms including Samsung, Hyundai and LG.

Key Points

  • 1Forms division across 10 industrial zones to drive AI adoption in manufacturing facilities nationwide
  • 2Secures support to build AI-operated automated factories, data centers and 5G networks for scale
  • 3Enables practitioners to access shared AI infrastructure and industry partnerships for faster deployment

Scoring Rationale

Nationwide industry initiative and official backing drive high impact; limited technical detail reduces immediate practitioner uptake.
