On Jan. 7, 2026, a shooting in the parking lot of a Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints building in Salt Lake City killed two people and injured six others, police said. Dozens were attending a funeral inside at the time; Chief Brian Redd said authorities do not believe the attack targeted a religion and that the incident was not random, though no suspect was in custody.
