Researchers Demonstrate GhostShot Attacks On CCD Cameras
Researchers from Zhejiang University presented GhostShot at NDSS 2025, an attack that uses intentional electromagnetic interference (IEMI) to inject arbitrary grayscale and color images into CCD cameras under normal lighting. They analyze amplitude–phase modulation to control injected patterns, validate the workflow on 15 commercial CCD cameras, and show the technique can mislead medical diagnosis, fire detection, QR-code scanning, and object-detection systems.
Scoring Rationale
High technical novelty and validated threat at NDSS; scope limited to CCD sensors and requires specialized IEMI equipment.
