Raytheon Integrates PhantomStrike Radar on X-62A VISTA

Raytheon received a U.S. Air Force contract to integrate its PhantomStrike radar onto the autonomous X-62A VISTA test aircraft, announced Dec. 19, 2025. PhantomStrike is an air-cooled, compact AESA fire-control radar that Raytheon says costs roughly half of typical systems while offering multimode targeting and mapping. Integration will validate sensor-to-AI dataflows for crewed-uncrewed teaming and autonomy experiments.
Key Points
- 1Integrates PhantomStrike radar onto X-62A VISTA for flight-testing autonomy and sensor fusion algorithms
- 2Offers compact, air-cooled AESA capability at about half typical cost, enabling denser autonomous fleets
- 3Allows engineers to validate radar-to-AI pipelines and decision authority in full-scale flight environments
Scoring Rationale
Industry-significant integration advances autonomy sensing, but it's an incremental deployment rather than a transformative technological breakthrough.
