Opera Adds MCP Support To Neon Browser

Opera announced on March 31, 2026 that its agentic browser Opera Neon now supports the Model Context Protocol (MCP), allowing AI tools such as ChatGPT, Claude, Gemini and third-party agents to access open tabs, interact with webpages, and perform actions in real time. MCP, developed by Anthropic and donated to the Linux Foundation’s Agentic AI Foundation, enables cross-app interoperability and can reduce context switching by automating multi-step browsing tasks.
Key Points
- 1Adds MCP support enabling LLMs (ChatGPT, Claude, Gemini) to access tabs and interact with pages
- 2Leverages open MCP standard donated by Anthropic to Linux Foundation’s Agentic AI Foundation for interoperability
- 3Reduces context switching for users, enabling automations, document updates, and multi-step task completion
Scoring Rationale
Published today; the change meaningfully increases browser-level LLM actionability and interoperability. Scored high for relevance and direct usability, slightly reduced for limited technical depth and being currently specific to Opera Neon users.
