OpenAI supplies ChatGPT Enterprise to Samsung employees

Per an OpenAI announcement dated June 21, 2026, ChatGPT Enterprise and Codex will be deployed to all Samsung Electronics employees in South Korea and to all employees worldwide in Samsung's Device eXperience (DX) division (OpenAI blog; BusinessKorea; ChosunBiz). OpenAI characterises the launch as 'one of OpenAI's largest enterprise launches ever' (OpenAI blog). Samsung intends to apply the tools across research and development, manufacturing, marketing, and management support functions (OpenAI blog; ChosunBiz; BusinessKorea).

Per OpenAI's announcement, ChatGPT Enterprise offers enterprise-grade controls including data protection, user and access management, and security governance, which OpenAI says enable organisations to deploy the service within existing corporate security and governance frameworks (OpenAI blog). Codex supports developer tasks - writing, reviewing, and debugging code - and can also help non-developer teams build internal tools and automated workflows (OpenAI blog; ChosunBiz). The OpenAI blog states that more than 5 million people now use Codex every week for technical and non-technical workflows, and that Codex weekly active users in Korea have grown nearly 800% since February 1, 2026 (OpenAI blog).

Tech in Asia reports that Samsung instituted a company-wide ban on ChatGPT and other generative AI tools in 2023 after sensitive source code was uploaded to a third-party service, and that the semiconductor Device Solutions division still faces tighter limits on external AI tools (Tech in Asia). The deployment also reflects an expanded relationship: OpenAI notes that Samsung and OpenAI had previously collaborated on advanced memory semiconductors for AI infrastructure, and the ChatGPT Enterprise agreement extends that relationship into workforce transformation (OpenAI blog; BusinessKorea).

Onboarding an entire business unit or country to a generative AI platform requires standardising SSO/SAML, data-loss prevention hooks, secure prompt design guidance, and role-based access controls. Integrating Codex for developer productivity also requires change management for CI/CD pipelines, code review policies, and provenance tracking - common implementation tasks at this scale.
