NovaResp Uses AI To Improve CPAP Therapy

NovaResp Technologies, a Halifax medtech startup founded in 2017, is developing AI-powered CPAP software that predicts obstructive sleep apnea events and intervenes gently, and it recently completed two clinical trials. Since 2021 the company has scaled its algorithm and engineering team using ICTC's WIL Digital student placements, engaging 34 placements and converting at least five into full-time hires.
Key Points
- 1Deploys AI to predict apnea events and prevent pressure spikes before they occur
- 2Reduces sleep disruptions by avoiding abrupt pressure increases that often cause therapy abandonment
- 3Uses ICTC's WIL Digital placements to build an affordable talent pipeline and hire graduates
Scoring Rationale
Applied predictive ML and completed clinical trials increase credibility and relevance, but innovation is limited to a medical-device vertical.
