Nordic Semiconductor Expands Cellular IoT Portfolio
Nordic Semiconductor unveiled new nRF92 and nRF93 cellular IoT SoC families and an nRF9151 NTN-capable module at Mobile World Congress in Barcelona this week. The nRF92 targets ultra-low-power devices with an Axon NPU, GNSS, LTE-M/NB‑IoT and satellite NTN support, while the nRF93 offers Cat.1 bis throughput; general availability is planned mid-2026 (nRF93) and early 2027 (nRF92). The company also outlined a roadmap toward 5G eRedCap support.
Key Points
- 1Announces nRF92 and nRF93 SoC families plus nRF9151 with NTN satellite connectivity and LTE support
- 2Highlights low-power Axon NPU, GNSS, Wi‑Fi locationing, and sensor co-processing for tiny wearables
- 3Enables developers to build globally connected IoT devices; sampling now, GA mid-2026 and early-2027
Scoring Rationale
Official product announcements and NTN/5G roadmap increase credibility and relevance, but incremental hardware updates limit transformational impact.
