Testing before equipment reaches a data center
Power equipment must continue to isolate faults safely when extremely high current flows through it. At the institute, short-circuit and arc-fault tests deliberately expose equipment to those conditions so engineers can check whether protective systems work and whether an enclosure contains heat, pressure and debris.
The test itself can be brief: Seoul Economic Daily reported that one switchboard test can end in 10 milliseconds after a full day of preparation. A formal certification attempt can cost roughly 100 million won, according to both reports. Those economics make early internal testing valuable because a failed design can be diagnosed, modified and tested again without rejoining an external laboratory queue.

The company says the institute's relationships with international certification organizations allow test data produced in Cheongju to support approvals in export markets.
