Lassen Peak Develops Handheld Weapon Scanner

Bellevue-based startup Lassen Peak has developed a handheld radar scanner that detects concealed weapons from several feet away using a proprietary ~300 GHz terahertz semiconductor chip, aiming to reduce pat-downs and escalation during police encounters. Backed by about $40 million in funding including a $10 million round led by Structural Capital, the company plans police beta tests in early 2025 and initial shipments targeted midyear, using AI-processed images and cloud storage for evidentiary records.
