Karnataka Launches Central Command Centre For Prisons
Karnataka Home Minister G. Parameshwara on Jan. 31, 2026 inaugurated a Central Command Centre for prisons, launching a technology-driven surveillance plan across the state. The system will install 1,076 AI-based cameras in 332 prison blocks, centralise monitoring with a 20-member control room, digitise lock/unlock procedures, and mandate immediate implementation across all central, district, and sub-jails. The government also approved new recruitments for the Prisons and Correctional Services Department.
Scoring Rationale
Official statewide AI surveillance rollout with concrete specs; limited novelty and sparse discussion of privacy safeguards.
