Intel Curtails Major Open-Source Project Portfolio

Intel Corporation is systematically ending or curtailing dozens of open-source projects in 2025, according to a Phoronix tracker that logs cancellations including Embree, Open Image Denoise, OSPRay, and ISPC. The cuts follow CEO Lip-Bu Tan’s cost-focused restructuring after a $16.6 billion 2024 net loss and have left many hardware-linked tools unmaintained, creating maintenance and security risks for Linux distributions and developers.
