Hong Kong Regulators Launch GenA.I. Sandbox++

The Hong Kong Monetary Authority, Securities and Futures Commission, Insurance Authority and Mandatory Provident Fund Schemes Authority, in partnership with Cyberport, have launched the Generative Artificial Intelligence (GenA.I.) Sandbox++ to broaden participation across banking, securities, asset management, insurance, MPF schemes and stored-value facilities. Building on the 2024 GenA.I. Sandbox, the programme offers supervisory guidance, technical support and complimentary GPU access at Cyberport to test AI for risk management, fraud prevention and customer experience improvements.
Key Points
- 1Launches a GenA.I. Sandbox++ across banking, securities, insurance, MPF, and stored value facilities.
- 2Strengthens cross-regulatory collaboration to manage systemic AI risks and foster sector-wide innovation.
- 3Prompts firms to pilot AI for underwriting, suitability assessments, customer chatbots, and advanced fraud detection.
Scoring Rationale
Official cross-regulatory launch drives high industry impact and usability, offset by limited novelty as an expansion of the 2024 sandbox.
