European Union Implements DSA Forcing Platform Moderation

The EU's Digital Services Act (DSA), adopted in 2022 and fully applicable to very large online platforms since February 2024, requires VLOPs to conduct systemic-risk assessments, extensive moderation, and transparency reporting. Critics, especially in the U.S., argue the law produces extraterritorial effects by compelling American platforms to enforce EU standards globally; the Commission fined X €120 million in December 2025 for transparency failures.
