European Commission Suffers AWS Account Data Theft

The European Commission disclosed a cyberattack on March 24 that targeted part of its Amazon Web Services cloud account and may have resulted in theft of internal data, a spokesman said. AWS said the incident involved compromised account credentials rather than a platform breach, and an internal investigation is ongoing; the alleged attacker claimed more than 350 gigabytes were stolen.
Scoring Rationale
Timely, credible report (Bloomberg, official statements) of a significant EU cloud breach raising credential-security concerns. Scored high for novelty and credibility, moderate for scope and actionability; limited technical detail slightly reduced the score.
