Coinbase and AWS add USDC payments to Bedrock AgentCore

Coinbase has integrated its x402 discovery layer and wallet infrastructure with Amazon Bedrock AgentCore Payments, a payments feature within Amazon Bedrock AgentCore, according to Coinbase's blog post. The integration lets developers build agents that discover services, make micropayments in USDC, and complete tasks with enterprise governance, audit logs, and compliance controls. Brian Foster, Coinbase's head of Infrastructure Growth and Strategy, said AWS developers can now build agents that "move money at software speed with the trust and compliance enterprises expect." AWS also said Stripe is joining AgentCore Payments as a connection in preview, working toward broader fiat payment support beyond micropayments.

x402 is an open payment protocol that repurposes the HTTP 402 "Payment Required" status code as a machine-native payment discovery and settlement layer; Coinbase first launched x402 in May 2025 so APIs, apps, and AI agents could transact using stablecoins. AgentCore Payments provides a single API call that handles wallet authentication and transaction signing while keeping private keys away from agents, plus time-bound spending limits and enterprise logging and dashboards. CryptoBriefing reports settlement on Base occurs in about 200 milliseconds at under a fraction of a cent per transaction, and that AgentCore connects to thousands of x402 services through Coinbase's MCP integration with AgentCore Gateway, including providers such as Exa, Messari, and Browserbase.

Cloud-platform support for programmable, low-cost payment rails removes a recurring integration hurdle for agentic-commerce prototypes. CryptoBriefing describes this as one of the clearest moves yet by a major cloud provider to bring crypto payment rails into enterprise AI agent infrastructure, and reports that x402 overall has processed more than 169 million payments across over 590,000 buyers and 100,000 sellers in its first year. An AWS Industries blog post on x402 and agentic commerce separately cites a projection that agentic commerce could mediate $3 trillion to $5 trillion of global commerce by 2030; that figure is AWS's own forward-looking estimate, not an independently verified market measurement.
