Protestant and Catholic clergy, including Minnesota branches of the Evangelical Lutheran Church in America and the United Church of Christ, have sued to force the Department of Homeland Security to allow prompt in-person pastoral visits to immigrants held at the Bishop Henry Whipple Federal Building; U.S. District Judge Jerry Blackwell will hear arguments Friday. Government lawyers say Operation Metro Surge ended Feb. 12 and clergy visits have been allowed for over two weeks.
