Canadian Redditors Reveal Concerns About Extreme Heat

Researchers from the University of Guelph and collaborators analyzed Canadian Reddit posts and comments about extreme heat collected via the Reddit API between Feb 12, 2023 and Feb 11, 2024 (607 posts; 25,253 comments; 15,366 users). Topic modeling highlighted heating and cooling costs, weather records, air conditioning, and health impacts; sentiment and emotion analyses showed regional differences useful for targeted public-health messaging.
