California Attorney General Orders xAI To Stop Deepfakes

California Attorney General Rob Bonta on Friday sent a cease-and-desist letter to xAI ordering the company to stop creating and distributing nonconsensual sexual images using its Grok image-editing tool. Bonta cited California's new AB 621 deepfake pornography law and warned of legal penalties, while launching an investigation and urging victims to report incidents. Bloomberg and others found widespread nonconsensual imagery, prompting platform and regulatory responses.
