Bangladesh Considers Vertical Farming To Secure Food

Bangladesh faces accelerating loss of arable land, officials and researchers warned at a seminar citing FAO and Bangladesh Bureau of Statistics data showing roughly 30% shrinkage from 1980–2020 and annual conversions of 2,500–3,000 hectares. Experts say vertical farming — hydroponics, stacked production, and LED systems — can save 70–95% water, bolster urban food production after the 2024 floods, and require subsidies, pilot projects, and farmer training.
