Aymn Alamoudi and colleagues, in a Viewpoint published in Journal of Medical Internet Research in 2026, argue that AI-enabled triage in general practice lacks real-world and equity-stratified evaluation despite rapid adoption. They note online GP consultation submissions rose from about 2.7 million in October 2023 to 8.3 million in October 2025, and call for sociotechnical evaluations, equity-focused performance reporting, and rigorous postmarket surveillance. The recommendations aim to prevent widening health inequalities.
