AI Affects Radiologists' CT Report-Drafting Efficiency

Researchers analyzed 185,044 chest CT reports from Beijing Anzhen and Tsinghua Changgung Hospitals (2018–2023) to evaluate AI impact on lung nodule report-drafting time using a difference-in-differences design. Pooled results showed a modest 0.86-minute increase (95% CI 0.14–1.57), with Beijing Anzhen achieving a 1.83-minute reduction by year two (≈28% time saved; DID −2.66 minutes, P<.001) while Tsinghua Changgung showed a nonsignificant 0.90-minute increase.
Key Points
- 1Observed pooled change: report-drafting time increased by 0.86 minutes across 185,044 CT reports
- 2Demonstrated substantial heterogeneity: Beijing Anzhen achieved 1.83-minute reduction by year two (28% time saved)
- 3Suggests efficiency gains depend on site-specific implementation, learning curves, and workflow integration strategies
Scoring Rationale
Strong real-world, large-sample difference-in-differences analysis supports actionable findings; limited generalizability due to two-hospital heterogeneity and context-specific implementation.
